Man City vs. Nottingham Forest prediction, betting tips & odds for EPL match

In command of their own destiny in the Premier League title race, Manchester City look to keep pace with others in the hunt as they visit relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

Seeking an unprecedented fourth-straight English top-flight crown, Pep Guardiola’s side sits third in the table behind Arsenal and Liverpool, but with just a four-point deficit behind the Gunners at the top and two games in hand, they are in command of the race, and others will be hoping for the necessary slip required to see City knocked off their perch.

Man City are limping to the finish line, with Erling Haaland missing Thursday’s match against Brighton due to injury. Still, despite crashing out of the Champions League in the quarterfinals to Real Madrid, City have yet to slip in domestic play since drawing with both title rivals back in March.

Nottingham Forest sit just a point above the relegation zone with four matches to go, having been cruelly denied a result against fellow relegation candidates Everton due to a host of refereeing gaffes which saw the club go bananas on social media in the aftermath. Still, this Forest side drew Man City last time they met at City Ground a year ago, and could play a role in the title race with another upset result here.

This Nottingham Forest side has shown significant improvement from their midseason struggles, but there’s little for them here. Last time these two teams met, Forest found themselves in a 2-0 hole by halftime, and despite Rodri being sent off early in the second half, they were still able to generate very few chances on the City net to mount a comeback.

Even without Haaland, they will have more than enough firepower to overcome whatever Nottingham Forest throw at them.

Nottingham Forest may not be able to keep up with Man City, but they can absolutely generate enough pressure to breach their back line once. Prior to their goose egg last time out against Everton, when they were denied at least one (probably two) clear penalties by shoddy officiating, Nottingham Forest had gone three straight matches with at least a goal.

They put two past Wolves in a strong offensive performance (18 shots, 9 shots on target, 1.92 xG), and found the net against Spurs the time before that in another decent attacking output (13 shots, 6 shots on target, 1.55 xG). Morgan Gibbs-White is capping off a strong season with some of his best performances down the stretch, Gio Reyna is making good after finally being afforded a chance to shine, and Callum Hudson-Odoi has put in some of his best shifts of the year as well.

To top it off, Man City have looked shakier than usual the last few months at the back — they have just three clean sheets in 11 matches across all competitions since the start of March, and two of those included the extremely cagey scoreless draw with Arsenal and the recent FA Cup win over Chelsea in which the Blues missed a host of quality opportunities in typical fashion.

As long as the betting market hands us plus odds on Phil Foden to find the back of the net, we will continue to play this game.

The England star had primarily been saved by Pep Guardiola for Champions League matches in recent weeks, but with Man City out of Europe and focused solely on domestic play the remainder of the season, Foden will once again be a main option in Premier League matches.

Foden scored against Nottingham Forest in the reverse fixture earlier this season, and he has six goals in his last five Premier League appearances. Add in his six shots against Real Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League match, and he is a continued presence in front of goal for his club when on the field. Continue to run this back weekly until Erling Haaland returns to fitness and form, Foden shows signs of slowing, or the betting market wisens up — at plus odds, he just needs to find the net in half his matches to make this play profitable on an every match basis.

With its own kickoff timeslot, this Sunday EPL match will be televised in the United States on USA Network, and in Spanish on Telemundo, both of which are available to stream on Fubo, who are offering a free trial for new users.
