Two of the top clubs in the Championship look to get back positive momentum ahead of the Premier League playoffs. 

Leeds United takes on Southampton on Saturday at Elland Road in the regular season finale. Leeds has locked up third place and could potentially secure automatic promotion with a win and an Ipswich Town loss, while Southampton is locked in to fourth place. 

It’s been an emotional rollercoaster of a week for Leeds. Last week began with the club winning a wild 4-3 encounter at Middlesborough, only to turn around and get rocked 4-0 to Queens Park Rangers, potentially leaving them in the playoff places instead of an automatic promotion.

Southampton meanwhile, a fellow recently relegated club looking to yo-yo back to the Premier League, appears to have hit a wall, having lost their last three matches. The Saints could use a win just to bring back good vibes to St. Mary’s Stadium.

Leeds coach Daniel Farke could be without striker Patrick Bamford for another game as well as right-back Connor Roberts, giving the German manager another headache after a poor run of form. He may need to make a change somewhere in the lineup to create a spark and lead Leeds to a dramatic victory.

Ipswich will confirm second place if they win or draw at home to Huddersfield. Defeat could block their automatic promotion, but only if Leeds win at home to Southampton, as the Yorkshire side have a higher goal difference.

Both teams are already guaranteed a playoff spot, alongside Southampton, with Norwich City and West Brom only needing a one point maximum to seal their playoff position.
