Hibernian vs Aberdeen Prediction & Match Preview

IT’S the meeting of Scottish football’s great underachievers this season when Hibs host Aberdeen at Easter Road on Sunday.

Scottish football has moaned for years about no one laying a glove on the Old Firm duopoly, but when two of the country’s biggest clubs somehow manage to both finish in the bottom six, what chance have you got?

Hibs have been the very model of inconsistency this season. Every time you think they have turned a corner – after a fine performance at St Johnstone in the first game after the split – they revert back to type and lose at Ross County. Manager Nick Montgomerie is surely clinging to his job by his fingernails, with Hibs fans’ patience almost out.

Aberdeen can at least point to a decent end to what had been a nightmare campaign. Caretaker manager Peter Leven missed last week’s game after an operation and Scott Anderson was in charge instead He guided them to their fourth league game in a row without losing a goal and second 1-0 win in a row with St Johnstone the victims.

Hibs are only just odds-against here at 11/10 with McBookie.com The Dons can be backed at 5/2 with bet365 and the draw is 27/10 with Coral.

Hibs have won league games at Pittodrie and Easter Road and the other one was drawn. But Aberdeen inflicted a painful defeat in Hibs in the League Cup semi-final at Hampden despite the Dons being reduced to ten men.

It’s almost four years since Aberdeen won at Easter Road though.

Hibs will surely have their work cut out bringing Hertha Berlin star Myziane Maolida back to Easter Road next season after an excellent loan spell where he’s bagged nine goals since arriving in January and five in his last seven games. He is surely too big at 21/4 to score anytime with bet365.

Bojan Miovski will surely leave for pastures new next season and will bring in Aberdeen plenty of money. He passed the 25-goal stage last weekend and the North Macedonian hitman is 15/8 to score anytime with UniBet.

Hibs will hope veteran keeper David Marshall and defender Will Fish return from injury. Aberdeen will likely go for the same team again after winning two matches in a row with it, which means only a place on the bench for captain Graeme Shinnie.

Hibs: Marshall, Cadden, Fish, Bushiri, Obita, Moriah-Welsh, Newell, Boyle, Marcondes, Maolida, Vente.

Aberdeen: Roos, Devlin, MacKenzie, Gartenmann, McGrath, Barron, Miovski, Clarkson, Polvara, MacDonald, Hoilett.

Aberdeen are in good form, have sorted out a leaky defence and look a solid investment at 4/5 on the double chance with McBookie.com of either a win or a draw against a Hibs side that reeks of inconsistency.

The Dons look a better side without veteran skipper Graeme Shinnie as they showed in the Scottish Cup semi-final against Celtic and the season is probably ending at the wrong time for them.

Both sides have chalked up plenty of corners recently with Aberdeen using more width these days thanks to Junior Hoilett. Back over 11 corners at 6/5 with bet365

Finally, it’s well worth a shilling on the 12/1 bet365 double of both Maolida and Miovski to score.
