Liverpool vs. Aston Villa prediction, betting tips & odds for Premier League match

Liverpool look to send Jurgen Klopp off on a high note as they visit Aston Villa on Monday, with the legendary German manager’s final two games of his Reds tenure on hand.

Klopp is set to depart the Reds this summer, and with Liverpool no longer in the title race, their chief motivation the rest of the way will be to see him off with a positive few performances, including the finale against Wolves at home on Sunday.

Aston Villa still have a competitive reason to remain vigilant, as they have not yet mathematically secured the final Champions League spot next season. They sit fourth in the Premier League table, four points above Tottenham with two games to go.

Spurs have a daunting test against Man City on Wednesday plus a finale against relegated side Sheffield United, and they must take the maximum from those games to pressure Villa for the fourth position. However, if Aston Villa get any points from their final two games, it’ll be all but concluded.

Neither one of these teams is in any kind of form to finish the season, but it’s Aston Villa that appear to have completely run out of steam as the 2023/24 campaign comes to a close. They were battered by Olymipacos over two legs in the Europa Conference League semifinal, and defeat on the road at Brighton sandwiched between was another reminder of how ruthless the Premier League can be amidst a taxing European campaign.

Liverpool aren’t exactly sending Jurgen Klopp off with aplomb, but their 4-2 win over struggling Tottenham proved they can still be exceedingly dangerous against teams that aren’t in their best form.

Liverpool have been excellent this season at wearing down opponents and then banging goals in across the second half. The Reds have been extremely poor in front of goal overall, but once they see one go in, the floodgates usually open.

Aston Villa, meanwhile, have fallen apart in the second half across the past few months, an indication of their tired legs amidst a successful but taxing season. They were one of the best first-half teams this season, with a +18 goal differential before the break, third in the league. However, that falls off to a 0 goal differential after halftime, and if you focus on just the final three months of the year, it’s even worse, sitting at -4 since the start of February.

Mo Salah’s odds to score at -110 present little value, but when paired with the Liverpool victory, it gives a tasty return. The Egyptian scored last time out to stop his mini drought, and Aston Villa is one of his favourite opponents.

Salah has scored seven goals in 10 career games against Villa, including in six of their last eight league meetings. He scored in the first meeting between these two sides on four total shots, and he has three goals in the last three trips to Villa Park, including a brace back in late 2020.
