Can Spurs still qualify for Champions League?

0

Tottenham Hotspur were without European football for Ange Postecoglou’s debut season in charge but have almost certainly ensured that won’t be the case in the 2024/25 campaign.

The Australian manager has lifted the fans’ spirits with his free-flowing attacking style of play but at times it has cost his side in terms of results as their defense has been left vulnerable.

Spurs currently sit fifth in the Premier League above Manchester United, Chelsea and Newcastle United.

The Sporting News takes a look at whether they can still qualify for the Champions League as we enter the final few weeks of the season.

Tottenham Hotspur are still within reach of Aston Villa, who currently sit fourth in the Premier League table and occupy the final Champions League qualification spot.

Spurs’ Champions League hopes were dealt a blow when English clubs that competed in this year’s competition were dumped out prematurely.

Following Spurs’ 2-0 defeat to Chelsea, they now have just one game in hand on Villa and remain seven points behind with four games to play.

That would suggest Villa are all but confirmed to secure the final Champions League place, leaving the Europa League for Spurs.

As of May 2, these are the English teams occupying the qualifying spots for European competitions in 2024/25.

Champions League: Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool, Aston Villa

Europa League: Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United

Conference League: Newcastle United
