When is Brazil Copa America 2024 squad announced?

0

Brazil are to be one of the first nations to announce their squad for the 2024 Copa America.

Coach Dorival Junior will name his initial roster in May before the players reconvene for a training camp and warm-up games ahead of the start of the tournament in the United States.

This year’s finals will offer a chance for Brazil to reclaim their standing as the best side in North and South America. The Selecao endured a difficult end to 2023 as they lost three consecutive 2026 World Cup qualifiers, including at home to world champions Argentina.

However, a win over England at Wembley Stadium and a thrilling draw with Spain during the March international break gave some new impetus to the group and suggested improvements are forthcoming under Dorival Jr, who was confirmed as the new permanent head coach in January.

Although Brazil are not quite at the level of previous major tournaments — for one thing, star forward Neymar is set to miss out with injury — they will still be one of the leading contenders for glory at this summer’s tournament in the United States.

The Brazil squad will be detailed below when the announcement is made.

Head coach Dorival Junior will name his squad for the Copa America on Friday, May 10, at 11 a.m. ET. He will announce the roster at the headquarters of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) in Rio de Janeiro.

Teams have the opportunity to name provisional squads of up to 55 players for pre-tournament training camps and friendly matches. These groups must be a minimum of 35 players and contain at least four goalkeepers.

The final rosters, which must be confirmed by June 12, will comprise 23 players. At least three of these players must be goalkeepers, and they must all be selected from the provisional squad, except in exceptional circumstances.

The below table will be updated with the names on the Brazil roster once the announcement is made.

Caps are correct as at the time of the squad announcement.

Once the final roster has been made official, changes can only be made due to injury or illness up until the team’s opening match of the tournament.

CONMEBOL’s tournament regulations state: “In case of serious injury or detection of pathological clinical elements of any player, after the submission of the squad list, and which prevents the player from playing in the tournament, the replacement of such player by another player included in the provisional squad list will be allowed up to 24 hours before the first match of the team in the competition, subject to the approval of the CONMEBOL Medical Commission.”

Brazil will be based in Orlando, Florida during the 2024 Copa America.

Players selected for the squad who play their club football in Europe will be asked to attend the pre-tournament training camp on May 30. Exceptions will be made for those involved in major finals that week (for instance, the UEFA Champions League final). Those players selected from among Brazilian teams will join up with the squad on June 3.

The Selecao will then hold a training camp before two warm-up matches: they face Mexico at Kyle Field in College Station, Texas, before they meet Copa America hosts USA at Camping World Stadium in Orlando.

The group will then continue training at their Florida base until June 20, when they travel to Los Angeles for their opening game of the tournament on June 24 against Costa Rica.
