The top drivers in NASCAR head west for the 2024 Shriners Children’s 500 in Phoenix on Sunday.

The venerable Phoenix Raceway has hosted of NASCAR championship race for the last four seasons and this latest race is expected to bring more excitement.

Sunday’s Shriners Children’s 500 NASCAR Cup Series event marks the 54th race hosted by Phoenix Raceway in the series’ history. 

The 1-mile, low-banked tri-oval located in Avondale, Arizona has an asphalt racing surface with 8 degrees of banking in turns one and two, 11 degrees in turns three and four, and 3 degrees on the backstretch. 

Hendrick Motorsports is off to a successful start to the NASCAR season already picking up wins at Daytona and Las Vegas.

After his win last week at the 2024 Pennzoil 400, Kyle Larson is the 11-2 favorite in the 2024 Shriners Children’s 500. Defending NASCAR champion Ryan Blaney is at 7-1 odds to win the Phoenix race.

However, Denny Hamlin could also find his way to victory lane and has two top-10 finishes in his last four races in Phoenix. Hamlin also runs well on flat tracks. 

Other drivers to watch are Tyler Reddick (#45 Toyota), Ross Chastain (#1 Chevrolet), Christopher Bell (#20 Toyota), Ty Gibbs (#54 Toyota) Chase Briscoe (#14 Ford) and Austin Cindric (#2 Ford)

Phoenix Raceway first opened in 1964, with the Cup Series holding its inaugural Cup Series race in 1988 with Alan Kulwicki as the winner.

The 2024 Shriners Children’s 500 will broadcast live on Fox in the United States. Canadian viewers can follow the action on TSN1.

Viewers can also find Sunday’s race on FoxSports.com, as well as Fubo, which offers a free trial.

Mike Joy, Clint Bowyer, and nine-time Phoenix winner Kevin Harvick will call the race from the broadcast booth. Jamie Little and Regan Smith will handle pit road for the television side, and Larry McReynolds will provide insight from the Fox Sports studio in Charlotte.

Sunday’s race has a 3:30 p.m. ET listed start time. However, pre-race activities are expected to push the waving of the green flag to approximately 3:45 p.m. ET.
