Ford is off to a slow start to the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season.

Chevrolet has won six Cup Series wins so far, while Toyota has won three. Ford? That would be none for the Blue Oval.

The Ford drivers have historically found success on superspeedways, and on Sunday, they’ll be headed to one of NASCAR’s most iconic superspeedways in Talladega.

Assuming the weather cooperates, Sunday’s race figures to be a thrilling one, and one that could bode well for Ford drivers looking to snap their winless run this season.

Michael McDowell claimed the pole position for the race at Talladega. It is only the second pole of his career.

The 39-year-old driver posted a top speed of 182.022 mph. He was one of five Ford drivers in the top eight. There has not been a win by a Ford driver this year. But in the week the motor company celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Mustang, McDowell called it a “good week for us to get a win.”

“I think we all felt that pressure knowing how strong we were at Daytona and Atlanta to come here to Talladaga and repeat and have a really good starting spot,” McDowell said, per NASCAR. “The guys put a lot of energy and effort into all the little extra details it takes to get that speed so excited for tomorrow and feel good about what we’ve been able to do this year with our superspeedway program.”
