Formula 1 fans will not be permitted to take part in the traditional post-race track invasion at this weekend’s Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.

The decision was made by event officials earlier this year amid an FIA investigation.

In January, the Australian Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC) confirmed fans would be denied track access in 2024.

Spectators were previously allowed to enter the track once the race was complete, before gathering beneath the podium on the pit straight.

Last year’s invasion, however, was deemed ‘unsafe’ by race stewards, resulting in the FIA launching an investigation.

Fans pushed through security barriers and entered the circuit near the finish, with some able to reach Nico Hulkenberg’s stranded Haas car on the exit of turn two.

Videos on social media also showed some spectators climbing barriers to gain early access to the track.

Concerningly, fans gained access to the track while a number of cars were still moving on track following the chequered flag.

“The security measures and the protocols which were expected to be in place for the event were not enforced resulting in an unsafe environment for the spectators, drivers and race officials,” stewards said in an FIA statement.

The AGPC requested to have until June 30 this year to submit their review.

It is unknown whether the ban will be lifted in 2025.
