WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre is currently one of the top heels in the company, but his job status reportedly isn’t secure.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful reported on Wednesday that McIntyre still has not signed a new contract even after he won and lost the World Heavyweight Championship within five minutes on Night 2 of WrestleMania 40 this past weekend.

Sapp reported in February that McIntyre’s deal was originally set to expire before WrestleMania 40, but time was added due to injury and inactivity to extend his deal past WWE’s marquee event.

According to Steve Carrier of Ringside News, McIntyre’s contract is “expected to conclude within the next few months.” However, the 38-year-old reportedly “has expressed his desire to remain with WWE while also displaying confidence in his ability to thrive outside of the company if necessary.”

McIntyre defeated Seth “Freakin” Rollins to win the World Heavyweight title on Sunday, his third career world championship. Unfortunately, his reign was short-lived and will now go down in infamy as one of the shortest in WWE history.

After defeating Rollins, McIntyre went over to the commentary desk to taunt CM Punk, who is recovering from a torn triceps that was caused by McIntyre during the men’s Royal Rumble match in January. Punk then attacked McIntyre, opening the door for Damian Priest to cash in his Money in the Bank contract and take McIntyre’s title.

McIntyre appears to be still involved in an ongoing feud with Punk, who cost him a victory in a No. 1 contender Fatal-4-Way match on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw.

Also, WWE scheduled its Clash at the Castle premium live event to take place in June in Scotland, which is McIntyre’s home country. It would be a massive surprise if his time with the company came to an end anytime soon, so fans who are worried about his potential departure can breathe a sigh of relief.
