The battle for the 2024 Formula One World Drivers’ Championship saw a return to form last weekend with Max Verstappen collecting a third race victory out of four so far this season. His early withdrawal in Australia two weeks prior marked the beginning of a poor outing for Red Bull as Ferrari and McLaren claimed the top four spots, but Verstappen and Sergio Perez were back to their best at Suzuka.

Carlos Sainz, who pipped his Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc to the top of the podium in Melbourne, had to settle for third place in Japan, trailing a resurgent Verstappen by over 20 seconds.

Perez finished second behind his team-mate, who also ran the fastest lap of the race for an additional point in the World Drivers’ Championship standings.

Charles Leclerc had claimed the fastest lap for the past two races in a row, but could only manage fourth behind Sainz as Red Bull reminded Ferrari who the dominant team are in this year’s Constructors’ Championship.

The Australian Grand Prix may have injected some drama into the early stages of the season, but after a dominant win at Suzuka, Verstappen has now re-established a 13-point buffer to second-placed Perez in the current standings, with Leclerc trailing the three-times defending champion by 18 points.

Another two-week break follows the Japanese Grand Prix prior to the season’s fifth race in China, and The Sporting News has all the info you’ll need to follow all of the action either live or catch up from around the world.

Unfortunately not! Despite there being more races than ever before in 2024, the season is still spread out accordingly to leave a weekend’s break between almost every race. Therefore, after the Japanese Grand Prix wrapped up last Sunday, there’s another week to wait until the 20 drivers arrive in Shanghai on April 19

The Chinese Grand Prix has been held at the Shanghai International Circuit regularly since 2004, however this year’s meeting is the first in five years. Lewis Hamilton was the 2019 victor on his way to a sixth World Championship with Mercedes, but following the outbreak of the covid-19 pandemic in China, the event has been put on hold for the past four seasons.

After the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka, there’s a weekend’s break ahead of race number five in 2024. It’s the second of three meetings held in the Far East, and one of the most iconic as the Chinese Grand Prix at the Shanghai International Circuit is held for the first time since 2019.

This highly-anticipated event begins with the first of three practice sessions on Friday, April 19, prior to qualifying the following day and the race itself on Sunday, April 21, which gets underway from 3:00 p.m. local time (CST).

Here’s how to watch the race across selected areas of the world’s major regions:

We’re four races down of a record-breaking 24 this season, with Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Australia and Japan all ticked off the list. The 20 competing drivers in 2024 now head to the Shanghai International Circuit for the Chinese Grand Prix on Sunday, April 21.
